Blue Mitchell (de son vrai nom Richard Allen) est un musicien peu connu, c'est sûr. Mais c'est un musicien qui fut plus sideman que leader et il y a peu d'albums sous son nom. Il n'a donc jamais vraiment encombré les bacs des disquaires et sa notoriété s'en ressent donc cruellement... Pour vous situer son style, je le vois comme un Lee Morgan, mais en un peu moins puissant et surtout moins démonstratif...

J'ai eu l'idée de ce post en lisant dans le Jazzman du mois dernier que le grand Stephane Belmondo citait Blue Mitchell comme une de ses influences majeures, alors que sortait en même temps ce CD. Il est judicieux de s'intéresser d'un peu plus près à ce musicien discret et qui fait quand même un peu partie des talents oubliés du Jazz...
