L'album présente Willie Nelson , Lucinda Williams , Sam Beam , Priscilla Ahn, Pieta Brown, James Gadson et Calexico . [1] Joey Burns, de Calexico, a produit l'album. Mission Bell a fait ses débuts au premier rang du Billboard 200 , se vendant à 40 000 exemplaires au cours de sa première semaine, ce qui constitue le total le plus bas pour un album n°1 de l'ère Soundscan. [2] Ces ventes ont battu le record établi par Cake 's Showroom of Compassion lorsqu'il en avait vendu 44 000 deux semaines auparavant. La semaine suivante , Mission Bell est passée du n°1 au n°26, la quatrième plus grande baisse depuis le n°1 du Billboard 200 en janvier 2017.
